Open Drop-In Dance & Fitness Classes

Welcoming adults and teens (14 years and older) on a drop-in basis, the Open Program offers progressive beginning, intermediate, and advanced level dance classes in Ballet along with various other Fitness exercise classes. The Open program classes are offered on a session and annual (September through June) on-going basis, and follows the School Calendar (September – June)

OPEN Classes are offered in the INTERIM SCHEDULE below, during holidays and outside of the School Calendar ( September – June).

OPEN FITNESS PROGRAMARC DANCE - GYROKINESIS

Welcoming adults and teens ( 14 years and older) on a session and drop-in basis, the Open Fitness Program offers various fitness conditioning classes that can be supplemental to Dance classes or used as daily exercise. The Open Fitness classes are offered on a session and annual (September through June) on-going basis.

 

Body Movement Works (BMW) offers two distinct classes on a drop-in/card or pre-registration basis. Pre-registration is a 4 week session offering students to attend 9 classes within each 4 week session. Pre-registration 9 classes must be completed within each  4 week session dates.

BMW Stretch, Strengthen & Tone (SST)

The OPEN FITNESS PROGRAM follows the School Calendar, September – June.

BALLET

Beginning

This class explores the basic positions and structure of a ballet class. Students begin at the barre and move to center work that includes stretches and rhythmic exercises that dance across the floor. The perfect introduction to the beginning dancer. No previous experience necessary.

Beginning/Intermediate

For the dancer who has studied ballet for 2 – 3 consecutive years. Beginning/Intermediate Ballet continues to build on the basic progression of a ballet class. Students work at the barre and move to more complex center exercises and movement sequences across the floor. This class will combine ballet vocabulary, rhythmic exercises, and stretches in a progressive class at a instructed pace for students to gain strength, increase flexibility, and greater body control.

Intermediate

For the dancer who has studied ballet for 3-6 consecutive years. Intermediate Ballet continues to build on the progression of a ballet class. Students work at the barre and move quickly to more complex center exercises and movement sequences across the floor. This class combines ballet vocabulary and rhythmic exercises at a instructed pace for students to gain strength, increase flexibility, and greater body control.

Intermediate/Advanced

For the experienced dancer and/or professional that is familiar with the progression, etiquette,  and structure of a ballet class. This class moves quickly through the barre, center work (adagio and pirouettes), and jumps (petit allegro and grande allegro).

Pointe/Variations

For the adult dancer that is looking for a comprehensive pointe class to continue building strength in pointe work. Pointe class is designed to be taken after technique class. The primary focus is pointe technique and building endurance in the shoes. Variations from the classical ballet repertoire are introduced once strength, endurance, and body control are achieved.

FITNESS

Body Movement Works (BMW) – BMW offers two distinct fitness classes

Stretch, Strengthen, & Tone (SST) – This class combines stretching and strength building exercises with the assistance of a low flying trapeze (aerial dance). SST is for people looking for a challenging strength building workout utilizing trapeze. Students will learn basic circus arts components in order to safely execute exercises that build overall body strength and tone with the trapeze.

Rebound Bounce (RB) – This class is designed to get your heart rate up quickly. It uses “rebounders” (trampolines) to offer a low impact aerobic class that will invigorate your brain and and tone up your buns. It’s fun bouncing while building endurance and strength. Come get your bounce on!

GYROKINESIS®

This class is a exercise class that combines yoga, pilates, dance, and Tai chi. A wonderful movement methodology for any age or mobility level. No movement experience necessary. GYROKINESIS® classes encompass sitting, lying, and standing positions. A wonderful form of exercise that improves mobility, flexibility and functional support for daily living

Things to know:

Arrive early: Please arrive 10 – 15 minutes prior to your class time so you may check in with the office and prepare for your class.

Building: ARC is located in the Crown Hill Center which is a security coded access building. If you are attending Open Class for the first time, please phone our office upon your arrival. All Open class students must sign in at the office upon arrival.

Inside our studios: To safeguard and protect our floors, please observe the following rules

No street shoes, food or drinks (water OK), gum.

Dancers that wear pointe shoes, please do toe taping and sewing outside of all studios.

Avoid using powders, sprays, lotions, oils, and creams that may come in contact with our floors. Clothing that has been exposed to fabric softener or dryer sheets should not come in contact with our floors.

Studio Closures/Inclement weather:  ARC follows the Seattle Public School district during the weekdays for weather closures. If you are uncertain of a Open class operating on a weekend, please phone the office.

Electronic devices: Please silence cell phones and electronic devices prior to entering the studios. ARC has a policy of NO cell phone/electronic device use in our studios. We would like to optimize the “human connection” in our studios.

Photos & Filming: Photography and/or filming of any kind is not allowed without first obtaining written permission from ARC.

Student minimum: All Open classes must have a minimum of three students in order to operate.

These classes are supplemental to the OPEN FITNESS program and will change regularly. Please check back frequently for current class information. All **INTERIM FITNESS classes are subject to change. Please bring your own mat for Fitness classes.

There is no registration fee for this program.

All participants must fill out an annual registration form and sign-in for each class.

*Pre-registration 9 classes/4 week sessions; registration and payment must be completed online.

*Pre-registration 9 classes must be used within 4 week session dates. Pre-registration students will not be allowed into 4 week sessions in which they are not registered.

Student must present class card to be marked and sign in for each class in the office.

Classes subject to change.

Class cards are non-transferable.

Lost or stolen cards are non-refundable and will not be replaced.

Class cards are valid the entire year in which purchased and must be presented prior to each class.
