Adult Summer Dance Intensive

A Four-Day Ballet Intensive for Adults: August 18 through August 21, 2016

SummerDanceIntensiveAdultsARC Dance welcomes adult dancers for four days of Ballet Intensive training in a “Day long” format: August 18 through August 21, 2016.

The Summer Adult Intensive program develops adult dancers’ ballet technique, classical repertoire, pointe work, men’s technique, flexibility, endurance, ballet vocabulary, and partnering. All classes are offered to deepen participants’ understanding of the ballet art form through their personal training in the studio….and, of course, to have lots of fun doing it!

At ARC, we take classical dance education seriously, and we believe adult dancers are just as interested in learning and applying their ballet knowledge as are young students. The professional faculty are certified dance educators with international experience and have a passion to teach. If you have recently studied ballet for a minimum of two years, for at least two classes per week, and are physically fit, you will enjoy participation in our program. There is no audition. We trust students will responsibly place themselves in the appropriate skill level. Of course, if you would like level placement help, we will use the first day of the program to assess your class placement.

LEVEL OF STUDY

Beginning/Intermediate:

This class explores the basic positions and structure of a ballet class. Students begin at the barre and move to center work (includes stretches and exercises or combinations—set to music—that dance across the floor). The perfect class for the adult student who has studied ballet for 2 to 4 years, this course follows a moderately paced progression of the classical ballet vocabulary and fundamental movements within ballet technique.

Intermediate/Advanced:

For the experienced adult student with 5 or more years of regular ballet training who is very familiar with the progression and structure of a ballet class, this class accelerates the pace through barre exercises and on to center work (adagio and pirouettes), and jumps (petite allegro and grande allegro) and uses more complex combinations than is covered at the Beginner/Intermediate level.

THE SHOWING:  SUNDAY, AUGUST 21, 2:00pm

Students of the Adult Intensive will perform choreography and repertoire at the culmination of the week long program. This performance is presented in an informal setting at ARC. $5 suggested donation.
